In older times with the rising of the New Year's sun, the men in Thrace dressed as a Baboushiaros (a calabash mask for the thracian festivity of Baboushiaros) . They used to wear sheep fleece, a calabach mask, bells, a knife on their belt and a large piece of wood. They used to hit the doors and the ground really hard causing the earth and the people to wake up.
